Hello Everyone,
I have just completed a project that was both challenging and touched my heart at the same time, and I wanted to share with all of you.
I have met so many wonderful people throughout this journey with dolls and the miniature world. Truly, some wonderful, inspirational and talented people.
You know, it still humbles and amazes me that people love my work and want to own a bit of it. I am thankful to be talented and grateful to be able to put it to good use.
By request, I have built a one of a kind house for someone who is visually impaired. The first thing that came to mind was that the house and rooms had to be easily accessible . My next thought was about texture. This is one of the elements that I always consider when building a new piece. I love texture and color ! Bright colors for that matter. I’m sure you’ll agree this is evident in my work.
When I thought about this request, it occurred to me that perhaps something “in the round” might work for my client, and so I suggested something similar to the original Tressy Pent House from 1965.
The house has no walls or roof to inhibit play. The main “core” of the house, serves as a back drop for each room and furniture can be picked up, felt and handled at will. It even has a terrace on top of the building !
The “Texture” House , as I lovingly call it, has lots of elements to it. Stone work for the fire-place. Pebbled floor for the Terrace. Chenille for the bed spread. Bamboo and Floral dividers as well as lots of bright colors , and even bright lights !
And so, I set out to create this very special home and I wanted to share it with all of you.
I am going to let the pictures do the talking.
Thank You “Friend” for choosing Me.

Creating a dollhouse is a complicated project. Imagine the challenges of designing one for someone who is visually impaired. Meet designer Maryann Roy and marvel at the Texture House, a detailed miniature home in the round, with all of the textures, shapes and finishing touches that make a space unique. Beautiful attention to detail and spectacular workmanship and design are here combined with a strong sense of empathy, allowing Maryann to step into someone else’s world and make beauty there designed especially for that person. This is a special gift. Please take time to read the story of the Texture House and enjoy the beautiful photographs. There is a video here as well, if you would like a sense of the piece as a whole. Truly inspiring. /Users/katherinemcdaniel/Downloads/7444152338_af9c7d2aab.jpg

Thank you Sarah!
it’s so amazing! I guess the extra effort you had to take to build this house let your creativity run free and you’ve outdone yourself! it’s maybe my favourite piece of yours since I follow this blog. I hope its future owner loves it as much as we (not visually impaired) do!
Thank you Misato!
ohholycow if I was anymore in love with this set, I would MARRY it!!!
You continually raise the bar. I’m still holding out for an entire house. *winks* When it materializes, I’ll be giving you my checking account and credit card numbers. And my first-born. 😀
Just adore your work! The colors, sizing, styling, retro flair are truly magnificent.
Thanks so much Ann – Hope to see you in New Orleans?! 🙂
