Mission Complete!

Hello Everyone and Happy New Year!

Some of you may know that I have been working on a very special commission for the last several of weeks. The request was to create a 1:6 dwelling much like the set used for the 1963 Judy Garland Christmas Special. It’s interesting to note that the original set was only used for this broadcast. It was then dismantled and never used again. So, in some small way (pun intended), this glorious set lives again!

Although it seemed like a monumental task, this was one set that I always had interest in trying to create one day. Because the original, life size set was so expansive, I did have to cut it down just a bit. But, I think the editing and substitutions worked out just fine and I am happy to say that my client is very pleased, and so, he has allowed me to share the outcome with all of you!

There are so many components to the set, with all pieces being independent of one another, and the photographic opportunities are endless! So, I have laid out the photos in sections thinking it would be easier to get an idea of how this set came to be. In other words, I am going to let the pictures do the talking.

I hope you enjoy!

Some “stills” from the original show :

The original set was geared toward the Christmas holiday and included a raised staging area where the Christmas tree stood. I included the raised area, but because this set will be used year round, changed that space to a reflective, seating area instead. And also, because the program was originally filmed in black and white, I had to take some liberties with colors.

My preliminary sketch of the lay out :

Shown here are the photos of the walls and how the structure is put together:

Working Fireplace too!

Barbie has made herself right at home in this once, holiday spectacular! I think Judy would’ve been quite pleased at its reincarnation. 🙂

Thank you for viewing ! May all your new year’s dreams and wishes come true!
