The Bachelor…

Hello Everyone

I’ve just completed another re-design of Barbie dolls’ original Dream House. This time, just for Ken!

I’m so pleased with the way it turned out, as is my client, and I wanted to share all the little details with you!

If you are not familiar with the interior of the original house, here’s what it looked like before:

I wanted the interior to have a more masculine look and used brown tones for both the floor and the furnishings. To define spaces, I created a platform entry which provides a step down into the living area. The room divider proves the perfect accessory to separate the bedroom and provide a bit of privacy!

I turned Barbie’s vanity area in to a sleek cocktail bar. I can almost hear the cocktail lounge music playing softly in the background. 😉

Green silk compliments the yellow tones of the house and makes the perfect bed linen.

The whimsical wall art above the bed is a miniaturized print. The original print by David Parise (Barbie and Ken photos) Used with permission.

Nothing makes a miniature space look more realistic like lighting that really works ! Room divider and console lamp both light up!

To make the space look a bit later in the 60’s I used a MOD print fabric for sofa upholstery and designed the credenza with geometric shapes!

Wall Art above the credenza is an original print done by Me.

Helping to camouflage some of the original wall designs (pictures, flags and shutter doors) are the use of colored board a new door, new flooring and some glorious new accordion closet doors. The window treatment was also updated.

All of the furnishings and additions are removable and do no damage to the original structure. The pieces are versatile enough so that you can change them around and get a totally new look! Ken approves!

Thank you for letting me share. Now, on to the next best thing !
