This has to be one of the most ambitious sets I’ve ever made – well, at least right up there with re-designing Barbie’s New Dream House!
From a favorite movie of mine starring Rock Hudson and Doris Day, I give you Jan Marrow’s apartment from the movie Pillow Talk ! :
Last two photos showing the set in its entirety. Yes, it’s large ! It measures approximately 40″ across and 30″ deep and stands 18 1/2″ at its highest point! This beauty has two tiers as you may have noticed from the photos. Gives the living room that sunk in look.
If you are familiar with the movie, you know that Jan has a sweet pink/grey galley kitchen looking into the living room. Here’s the inspiration shot from the movie:
So, I’ve included the kitchen island to complete the look of this set.
The apartment was built-in sections so you can even remove the wall from the office area if you’d like. The office chair can also be used in the living room for extra seating and the side table could also be used as a coffee table, just like the small pedestal tables Jan had in front of her sofa!
Because the set is so large, I opted to omit the bedroom and just imply it by adding the hallway (in yellow as seen in the movie) to give you the feeling that the bedroom is just beyond those walls.
This gorgeous “diorama of your dreams” is going to be featured in the Music issue of FDQ magazine coming out in the spring. Doris Day is one of the most celebrated singers of the 20th century and what better way to celebrate music than to feature her along with Rock Hudson in one of the best loved movies of all time.
This truely special, one of a kind set is FOR SALE . THIS SET IS NOW SOLD !
I intend to place it up for auction next week, but I welcome any interested parties to make an offer before then. What a glorious way to celebrate your dolls ! Please contact me at: welcomehome@maryannroy.com and I would be happy to discuss further details.

Holy cow thats fabulous! Uve really outdone urself:))
As regarding scale, this set is possibly your most ambitious set ever, Maryann, and certainly in the top 10 for glamour! What an iconic film — so perfect for fashion dolls — whether vintage Barbie, Silkstone, etc. Gorgeous reproduction/interpretation of a film set apartment that is as much a ‘character’ of the film as Ms. Day and Mr. Hudson!
Just when I think you’ve hit the pinnacle of 1:6 scale interior design, you raise the bar even further. Now if you could only master that ‘shrink ray’ so we could all live with lovely Lisette… 😀
Beautiful!
You’re peach Deb – Thanks!

Fabulous, as always, Maryann! I just got to this email. I’ve been busy and haven’t checked most of my email for a while. This was a treat to find. 🙂 Reproductions of actual things are my favorite in the miniature world. You definitely captured this one. Keep creating! Ronda
